The Genius of Creativity - Giving Yourself Permission

Are you sometimes afraid that you are not creative?  Or worse, that you once were creative, and now you lack the space or energy to get back to that wonderful place?  You are not alone!  We are all born naturally creative, but over the years as we focus on analysis and getting the process to work in order to achieve results or movement toward exterior goals, something gets lost in the mix.  Never fear, however.  You can harness your creativity - your natural genius - to help you view your options again in novel ways.  This can be as simple as changing the flow of the patterns you have developed for yourself over the years. . . and with a little practice outside your worn grooves, your creativity can be rekindled.

Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing again:
* Start up a conversation with a complete stranger in a public place.  Perhaps this is a grocery store or the library, post office, or pet shop.  What is an interest you share?  In talking with this person, what unique take-away are you providing her or him?
* Take a different route to a familiar, routinely-visited location.  For example, if you consistently move from your office to a staff lounge in a straight line, try getting there in a more circuitous fashion.  Perhaps drive to work a different way each day for a week, with different music styles on the radio each day as you drive.
* Read a book genre you might not ordinarily select.
* Take a new person out to a meal you do not ordinarily go out for.  An example might be breakfast with your great aunt who you typically do not invite to family gatherings.
*  When shopping, pop into a store you do not ordinarily visit.
*  Plan a menu with entirely new foods - maybe all with the same color or shape.
*  Move several items in your home to locations you might not otherwise consider.  What are your thoughts and feelings as you encounter these "misplaced" items?
*  Allow yourself to play with your child or a niece or nephew as though you are yourself a child.  What comes up for you?
*  Keep a notepad or journal where you can spend 5 minutes a day jotting down something peculiar about what you are observing around you.  Describe an object with as many adjectives as you can imagine.

Doing these things will require that you adjust your thinking and activity - in essence, get you doing something different and working your creativity.  Little by little you will suprise yourself as your genius begins to re-emerge once again.  Freeing yourself to do things differently allows you to recreate yourself.  What is the worst that can happen?  Have some fun!
