The Benefits of Catabolism - Part 2 of 3

In Part 1, I defined catabolism and anabolism in relation to our consciousness, or awareness.  I would like to insert some positive comments about these lower levels of energy before we move on to the anabolic levels.  First of all, while I stated that Level 1 feels bad, as we become more conscious of how we are doing business in life and of the control we can develop to independently shift ourselves to anabolic states, we can benefit on occasions by shifting back to lower energy levels in response to stressors.  It’s just that we become aware that we don’t have to STAY there and are able to move.

Plug yourself into these scenarios.  Let’s say that you mostly resonate at a level 4 or 5 energy (this will be discussed in Part 3) during the day.  You are feeling really productive, as though your influence in the world is positive, and life is good.  Then – WHAMMO! – you get a cold that won’t go away.  You feel bad.  Your nose is sore, you are hoarse from coughing, you have a fever.  All you really want is to go to bed. You dip into Level 1 energy.  But there is a payoff now.  Your partner comes to you with consoling words, hot tea, a warm blanket, and an offer to take over your household duties so you can rest.  Now you are feeling taken care of, and this feels good – already your energy is shifting back to a more catabolic state.  Plus, a brief trip to Level 1 brought out the best in another person you love, strengthening your bond.

Or take Level 2.  You are happy in your Level 4 or 5 state of consciousness, doing good things for the world, feeling powerful, when WHAMMO! – you read a Facebook page that is a plea to find a dog lost by a professional transporter.  How can a professional transporter be so stupid as to lose this beautiful, innocent puppy, someone’s beloved pet, you wonder?  You dip into Level 2, because this is just plain wrong and something must be done immediately to find her.   Your energy begins to flame, and now you are spurred to action.  You may be operating in Level 2, your angry place for only a moment, but you can still feel the burn to make the transporter pay for his mistake.  And as your thoughts are reeling with the injustice of it all, you rapidly shift into a higher state of awareness because now you are supporting pet-owners who are probably frantic, and this new alliance feels good.  You have returned to an anabolic state.

So yes, under stress, we may default into lower energy levels, but we can use them to move us to action as long as we aren’t mired there.  All levels and how we move through them whether relaxed or under stress, make us markedly human, and each of us is a complex and unique being striving for homeostasis.

I welcome you to follow up with Part 3 – Shifting into Anabolic Energy – where I will describe Levels 3-7, and you will be able to see for yourself that you fluctuate within these levels on a daily basis, and you have power to control how you show up in the world energetically.  See you there, because life just gets better when you become more conscious!

Shifting upward,

Coach Leona
